Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Surry County uses districtwide screening, multidisciplinary school review, and grade-banded specialist support to identify and serve advanced learners.
How services work: K–8 AIG specialists support differentiation, enrichment, and annual service review; high-school specialists help students build four-year plans and connect to advanced courses, internships, apprenticeships, and community partnerships.
How students are identified: District screening includes a second-grade aptitude measure and achievement evidence in grades 3–8. School teams consider multiple data sources with participation from teachers, administrators, counselors, and specialized staff.
