Elkin City Schools provides early nurturing, universal ability screening, annual planning, and a wide continuum of advanced learning environments.
How services work: DEPs may include cluster or flexible grouping, pull-outs, compacting, subject or grade advancement, enrichment, independent study, seminars, STEM, competitions, honors, AP, dual enrollment, internships, and distance learning.
How students are identified: With family consent, all second-graders receive CogAT screening in spring; later testing may follow requests, referrals, or strong EOG performance. Teams use ability, achievement, teacher evidence, portfolios, and documented intellectual potential.
