Gifted Services / Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)

Onslow County provides differentiated curricula and academic, intellectual, and social-emotional support for gifted and potentially gifted learners across K–12.

How services work: Elementary schools use half-time gifted specialists, classroom collaboration, pull-outs, and talent development; secondary schools add academic blueprints, honors, AP, IB, CTE, virtual learning, enrichment, and counseling support.

How students are identified: Screening, testing, and identification may be requested at any grade, though most identification occurs from grades 3–7. Referrals can come from teachers, families, peers, or students, and school teams match services using individual assessment evidence.

Camp Lejeune Schools

Advanced Academic Programs and Services (AAPS)

Camp Lejeune Schools follow DoDEA's inclusive advanced-academic framework, which develops potential from kindergarten and increases service intensity as learner needs increase.

How services work: The DoDEA levels-of-service model includes critical and creative thinking, classroom differentiation, flexible or fixed cluster grouping, resource-teacher collaboration, content extensions, interdisciplinary learning, individualized support, acceleration, and advanced secondary coursework.

How students are identified: DoDEA screens second-graders with CogAT and may administer the full battery as needed. Formal review for higher service levels uses multiple quantitative and qualitative criteria, including ability data, teacher and family input, observations, work, interests, and demonstrated need.
