Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Edenton-Chowan Schools combines recurring universal screening, referral, comprehensive learner evidence, and annual planning to serve gifted students.
How services work: DEPs place students in appropriate advanced core programming and may include differentiated grouping, compacting, acceleration, independent projects, honors, AP, dual enrollment, and academic tracks aligned with individual interests and readiness.
How students are identified: The district schedules CogAT screening in grades 3, 5, and 8 and accepts referrals supported by family, teacher, and student inventories. Teams also review work, literacy and math diagnostics, benchmarks, grades, EOG or EOC results, and portfolios.
