How students are considered
Published processKindergarten students receive universal CogAT screening, with the top 10 percent at each campus advancing to parent permission and further Iowa assessment; the team may advance additional students. For the broader K-12 process, the plan uses local screening data, CogAT, Iowa achievement, the GATES teacher scale and a district parent scale. A trained committee of at least three reviews the complete profile and selects by majority decision when the evidence indicates gifted services are the most effective placement.
What service can look like
Published modelKindergarten through Grade 8 students receive grouped or clustered service from G/T-trained teachers using the Texas Performance Standards Project and Depth and Complexity. Grades 9-12 use Honors, Advanced Placement and dual-credit options and are expected to receive an appropriately challenging higher-level course each semester.

01For Grades 1-11, obtain and submit the current referral form between February 8 and 26, 2027; retain the submission confirmation because late applications are not accepted.
02For kindergarten, confirm participation in the October 12-19 universal CogAT screen and watch for a November 6 permission packet if the child advances.
03Complete the parent scale with specific examples of advanced reasoning, original thinking, rapid learning and unusually sustained interests rather than general praise.
04Ask for every screening, CogAT, Iowa, GATES and parent-scale result considered by the committee and the committee's written placement decision.
05If appealing, file within ten days of notification and include evidence that directly addresses the local identification profile.
06After placement, confirm the child's clustered or grouped teacher, TPSP and Depth and Complexity plan, or the exact Honors, AP and dual-credit sequence.
