How students are considered
Published processGrade 2 receives universal screening during the first semester. Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grades 3-6 use second-semester referral opportunities; Grades 7-12 have one opportunity each semester. The district accepts referrals year-round, gathers parent and teacher surveys and administers an online cognitive assessment. A trained committee reviews the evidence, sends a written letter and begins services promptly after placement.

Grades 1-4 use trained cluster classrooms, Grades 5-6 add Advanced courses, Grades 7-8 use Advanced, accelerated and fine-arts options, and high school adds Advanced, AP, dual-credit, independent-study and fine-arts pathways.

03Ask the teacher to explain the classroom survey process and request the name and date of the online cognitive assessment.
04Request the full committee evidence profile and written placement letter.
05Ask when services begin and identify the trained classroom, cluster or advanced course assigned to the student.
06For secondary students, build a course plan that includes at least one available Advanced, AP, dual-credit or other gifted-service option.
