How students are considered
Published processA parent or guardian or classroom teacher may refer any enrolled, not-yet-identified K-12 student, using products, observations and prior achievement or ability evidence as indicators. The formal profile includes a cognitive abilities test plus current parent and teacher surveys and at least three appropriate qualitative and quantitative criteria. A trained campus selection committee reviews the full record and sends a written decision and appeal rights.
What service can look like
Published modelK-12 services use G/T-trained teachers and flexible arrangements matched to identified areas. Options include designated or cluster classrooms, flexible pacing, advanced materials, content acceleration, flexible grouping, independent research, Texas Performance Standards Projects, G/T Power Hour and year-round enrichment. Kindergarten service begins no later than March 1; Grades 1-11 placements begin the following school year.

01Submit the online referral or a dated written campus request by October 30, 2026 and retain proof.
02Complete the parent survey with specific examples tied to intellectual reasoning, creativity, leadership and core academic strengths.
03Ask the campus facilitator when the cognitive abilities test and teacher survey will be completed and whether prior data or authentic products should be included.
04Expect kindergarten results in February or Grades 1-12 results in April; request the written committee decision and profile evidence.
05If appealing, act within ten school days and connect any new evidence to one of the handbook's stated appeal bases.
06For placement, ask whether the campus uses a designated, cluster or modified-cluster classroom and document the child's identified subject area, acceleration and independent-research opportunities.
