How students are considered
Published processAll students are screened with accommodations for IEP, 504, and English-learner needs. K-2 evidence can include Star literacy/reading, Star mathematics for Grades 1-2, F&P reading, prior report-card grades, teacher input, and KBIT. Grades 3-6 can use F&P, Star reading and mathematics, NJSLA ELA and mathematics, prior grades, teacher input, and CogAT.
What service can look like
Published modelTier 1 provides classroom differentiation, compacting, learning centers, and flexible grouping. Tier 2 adds pull-out or other enrichment beyond the classroom. Tier 3 can include advancement, acceleration, advanced classes, dual enrollment, independent study, differentiation, and mentorship; identified K-6 students may receive small-group pull-out.

01Before the relevant trimester, ask which three or more screening measures will be used for the child's grade.
02Request appropriate IEP, 504, or English-learner accommodations before screening begins.
03Collect current Star, F&P, NJSLA, report-card, teacher, and classroom evidence and compare it with the published grade-level matrix.
04If the child is denied, contact the gifted teacher promptly and request screening-committee review of the complete record.
05Ask the committee for the written decision and whether added KBIT, CogAT, or other evidence was considered.
06Treat a placement appeal separately from a procedural complaint; document any statutory noncompliance within the one-year limit.
