Hamilton provides weekly K-2 ACE enrichment, universally evaluates every student at the end of Grade 2 for Grades 3-5 ALPS, and uses separate placement processes for accelerated middle- and high-school coursework.

How students are considered
Published processAt the end of Grade 2, every student is evaluated using CogAT at 70%, teacher recommendation at 15%, and report-card grades at 15%. Incoming Grades 4-5 may be recommended at year end or during the year, using prior CogAT or SAGES at 70% plus teacher recommendation and grades at 15% each. Grades 6-8 use a placement test, teacher recommendation, and grades; Grades 9-12 use current-course average, teacher or counselor recommendation, and prior coursework. Families may appeal and the district may re-screen or use alternative measures.
What service can look like
Published modelK-2 ACE uses weekly related-arts rotation lessons in problem solving, critical thinking, and PETS. Qualifying Grades 3-5 students receive small-group ALPS lessons using careers, productive struggle, mathematics, and technology activities. Grades 6-8 offer accelerated ELA and mathematics, including high-school-level math; Grades 9-12 offer Honors and AP courses across major subjects.

01Before the end of Grade 2, request the CogAT date, score report, teacher-recommendation rubric, and family-notification date.
02Recalculate the published elementary weights—70% reasoning assessment, 15% teacher recommendation, and 15% report-card grades—and ask for the district's qualifying total.
03For Grades 3-5 reevaluation, ask the teacher to submit a recommendation and confirm whether prior CogAT or a new SAGES assessment will be used.
04For middle school, obtain the placement-test date, preparation description, teacher input, grade evidence, and the exact accelerated ELA or math path under consideration.
05For high school, review prerequisites with the counselor before course requests close and retain the written course recommendation.
06If appealing, state which measure, weight, missing evidence, or access issue should be reviewed and ask whether re-screening or an alternative measure is appropriate.
