Gifted and Talented Program,
made navigable.

Freehold Borough uses teacher observation in K-2, universal NNAT3 in the second half of Grades 2 and 5, and multiple equally considered measures for Grade 3 and Grade 6 placement. The delivery model shifts from pull-out in K-5 to classroom enrichment in Grades 6-8.

02

How students are considered

Published processK-2 teachers use an observation inventory covering reading, curiosity, creativity, concepts, follow-through, deep interests, spatial performance, leadership, and arts. For Grade 3 placement, all Grade 2 students take NNAT3 and the district weighs NNAT3, report cards, benchmarks, and teacher recommendation equally. Grade 6 placement uses Grade 5 NNAT3 plus NJSLA, final report cards, final benchmarks, and teacher recommendation in a matrix. Grades 3-5 are reviewed at each year-end.

03

What service can look like

Published modelKindergarten through Grade 5 uses a pull-out model intended to enrich strengths and general interests. Grades 6-8 receive enrichment in regular classrooms, while students showing higher mathematics ability may enter Math Honors. The building principal makes the final placement decision after receiving a composite-data recommendation from the supervising district administrator.

Your starting checklist

Turn the published process into clear next steps.

Confirm current instructions with the district before submitting. Bloomfield does not predict placement or reproduce protected assessments.

01For K-2, ask the teacher for the observation-inventory categories and examples documented across the school year.
02Before second-half testing, confirm the Grade 2 or Grade 5 NNAT3 window and when score reports will be available.
03For Grade 3 placement, request all four equally weighted measures: NNAT3, report card, benchmark, and teacher recommendation.
04For Grade 6, request the complete matrix including NNAT3, NJSLA, final report card, final benchmark, and teacher recommendation.
05Ask the principal for the written placement decision and distinguish gifted classroom enrichment from Math Honors criteria.
06If the child's needs change in Grades 3-5, use the annual year-end recommendation review instead of assuming placement is permanent.
