Who and which grades

Published coverageKindergarten through Grade 8

02

How students are considered

Published processInitial Tier III screening considers classroom performance, mastery of designated assessments, exemplary work samples, and benchmarks. SAGES-2 is administered universally to Grade 6 in fall and Grade 2 in early-to-mid March; CogAT is given in Grades 3, 5, and 7 during March. The district describes Tier III as serving roughly 3-6% of students whose evidence shows well-above-average ability, typically two years above level, together with task commitment and creativity.

03

What service can look like

Published modelTier I embeds whole-group extensions and open-ended tasks. Tier II offers individualized opportunities such as clubs, Grade 5 enrichment, middle-school electives, competitions, and separately screened accelerated mathematics. Tier III provides individualized or small-group real-world inquiry, resources, curriculum compacting, possible subject or grade advancement, and a July project-based camp for identified students.

Your starting checklist

Turn the published process into clear next steps.

Confirm current instructions with the district before submitting. Bloomfield does not predict placement or reproduce protected assessments.

01Use the child's grade to track the universal SAGES-2 or CogAT month and ask the school for exact testing days.
02Collect evidence across all three Tier III rings: advanced ability, sustained task commitment, and original or creative work.
03Request the classroom-performance, designated-assessment, work-sample, and benchmark evidence used in initial screening.
04Ask whether the need belongs in Tier II, Tier III, accelerated mathematics, or alternative grade/subject placement because these routes differ.
05If Tier III is selected, request the individualized plan, compacted content, meeting frequency, and progress-review date.
06Ask about July camp registration and begin program concerns with the classroom teacher using the district's published chain of command.
