Gifted and Talented/Enrichment,
made navigable.

Essex Fells does not center its model on a standalone gifted class. Students working beyond classroom benchmarks move through the I&RS process to an individualized plan, usually delivered through classroom differentiation; acceleration can be considered when that is not enough.

01

Who and which grades

Published coveragePreschool through Grade 6 district; gifted support primarily in inclusive classrooms

02

How students are considered

Published processTeachers monitor whether a student performs above grade-level benchmarks and beyond what ordinary classroom differentiation can address. The I&RS team reviews the learner's needs in one or more content areas and develops individualized programming; this route explicitly includes twice-exceptional students. The public page does not specify one test cutoff or annual nomination window.

03

What service can look like

Published modelTeachers use flexible and ability-based groups, tiered assignments, learning centers, independent study and research, technology, problem solving, curriculum compacting, cooperative learning, and readiness-matched questioning. Students needing more than classroom adaptations may receive an I&RS-developed plan. Subject or whole-grade acceleration considers academic readiness, student disposition, social readiness, and parent support.

Your starting checklist

Turn the published process into clear next steps.

Confirm current instructions with the district before submitting. Bloomfield does not predict placement or reproduce protected assessments.

01Document where the child is already working beyond classroom benchmarks and which ordinary differentiation has been tried.
02Ask the classroom teacher to bring the advanced-learning need to the I&RS team and request the meeting timeline.
03Provide work samples, assessment evidence, observations, and social-emotional context, especially for a twice-exceptional learner.
04Request a written individualized plan that names the adaptations, frequency, responsible staff, and progress evidence.
05If compacting and enrichment remain insufficient, ask the team to review subject or whole-grade acceleration using all four published factors.
06Schedule a follow-up date so the plan is adjusted when the child continues to outpace the selected work.
