Elementary Gifted and Talented,
made navigable.

Edison's elementary gifted process begins with a district-administered creativity assessment in fall. The district then applies very high academic-performance evidence and may use performance tasks or interviews when more information is needed.

01

Who and which grades

Published coverageGrades 3 through 5 elementary gifted eligibility; separate secondary grouping

02

How students are considered

Published processWith parent permission, students take the Cebeci Test of Creativity in Edison during fall. The district calculates creativity from originality plus the strongest of fluency, flexibility, or elaboration, then considers Exact Path Diagnostic performance at the 99th percentile or above; where Exact Path is not used, i-Ready performance two grade levels above the student's current grade is considered. Performance tasks and interviews may supplement the decision. Outside assessments are not accepted.

03

What service can look like

Published modelThe published elementary route governs Grades 3-5 gifted eligibility. Middle- and high-school advanced classes use separate current grouping procedures, so an elementary gifted result should not be treated as automatic secondary placement.

Your starting checklist

Turn the published process into clear next steps.

Confirm current instructions with the district before submitting. Bloomfield does not predict placement or reproduce protected assessments.

01Ask the school when fall creativity-test permission is due and confirm that testing will occur inside Edison.
02Request the Cebeci originality, fluency, flexibility, and elaboration results—not only a pass/fail label.
03Obtain the current Exact Path percentile or applicable i-Ready grade-level result used in the decision.
04Ask whether a performance assessment or interview was needed and how that evidence affected eligibility.
05Do not purchase an outside assessment expecting it to substitute for district testing; the district says it will not accept one.
06For middle or high school, use the separate 2026-27 grouping and appeal documents for the relevant subject.
