How students are considered
Published processParents or staff may nominate a student. The district reviews grade-appropriate multiple measures: teacher recommendation, report cards and i-Ready across the program; CogAT in Grade 2; InView in Grades 3-8; and NJSLA in Grades 4-8. The top five percent of each grade-level matrix, compared with chronological peers, are accepted. The live criteria table also lists kindergarten evidence even though the published testing timeline identifies Grades 2-8, so families should confirm the entry procedure for Grade 1 directly.
What service can look like
Published modelThe district describes a continuum that can include classroom differentiation, pull-out instruction, cluster grouping, subject acceleration and honors mathematics in middle school. Placement is intended to address intellectual, creative, artistic or leadership needs requiring specialized higher-order instruction.

01Submit the current parent nomination form by April 1 and retain a copy or confirmation.
02Ask which evidence applies to the child's grade and confirm whether Grade 1 entry follows a separate procedure.
03Prepare specific classroom examples that support teacher and parent evidence; request the child's i-Ready, CogAT, InView, NJSLA and report-card results when applicable.
04Request the completed grade-level matrix and written September eligibility decision, including how the top-five-percent local comparison was applied.
05If appealing, write to the gifted administrator within 45 days of the dated letter and focus the request on evidence used or omitted in the original review.
06After placement, confirm whether the child's plan uses pull-out, cluster grouping, subject acceleration, honors mathematics or classroom differentiation.
