Gifted and Talented Education,
made navigable.

Delran publishes unusually specific identification thresholds and a PreK-12 service continuum. Grade 2 receives universal CogAT screening; parent reconsideration is due before August 15, and any single-subject acceleration review must finish by June for September placement.

01

Who and which grades

Published coveragePreK-12 continuum; direct gifted pull-out serves Grades 3-8

02

How students are considered

Published processDelran considers ability scores of 130 or higher or the 96th percentile, achievement at the 95th percentile or higher, and teacher SIGS intellectual or creativity ratings at two standard deviations above the mean or the 95th percentile. All Grade 2 students take CogAT. A student without CogAT who meets at least four of six district achievement or SIGS measures may be offered CogAT before a final decision.

03

What service can look like

Published modelThe continuum includes PreK-12 classroom differentiation, K-8 cluster grouping, Grades 3-8 gifted pull-out, a Grades 9-12 gifted seminar, K-2 enrichment, accelerated mathematics in Grades 4-8, accelerated ELA in Grades 6-8, K-12 single-subject acceleration, and secondary Honors/AP. These are separate pathways, so gifted identification does not automatically confer accelerated-course placement.

Your starting checklist

Turn the published process into clear next steps.

Confirm current instructions with the district before submitting. Bloomfield does not predict placement or reproduce protected assessments.

01Ask for the child's completed ability, achievement, and SIGS evidence profile and compare it with the published percentiles.
02For Grade 2, confirm the annual CogAT date and when written identification notices will be sent.
03If CogAT is missing, ask whether the child meets four of the six other achievement or SIGS measures that trigger further testing.
04Submit a reconsideration request before August 15 and keep proof that the gifted-education supervisor received it.
05Begin any single-subject acceleration request early enough for review, above-grade-level work, and proficiency testing to finish by June.
06Request the precise service match because gifted pull-out, seminar, enrichment, acceleration, Honors, and AP use different criteria.
