How students are considered
Published processKindergarten through Grade 2 evidence includes above-grade-level Fountas and Pinnell reading, exceeding LinkIt benchmarks, report cards and teacher recommendation. Grade 3 students must meet at least three of five criteria, including CogAT above 110. Grades 4-8 must meet at least three of five criteria, including CogAT above 115, reading, LinkIt or prior-year NJSLA, report-card or core-course grades and teacher recommendation. All participants requalify annually.
What service can look like
Published modelKindergarten through Grade 2 students receive classroom differentiation and several STEAM lab experiences during the year. Identified students in Grades 3-8 also meet with the gifted teacher once a week for 41 minutes for collaborative Odyssey of the Mind projects; some students may take advanced mathematics in Grades 7-8.

01Confirm the child is enrolled in the Carlstadt district rather than the separate Carlstadt-East Rutherford regional district.
02Before the annual review, ask the coordinator which current Fountas and Pinnell, LinkIt, NJSLA, report-card and teacher evidence will be used for the child's grade.
03Request the child's CogAT score and the district record showing which three or more grade-specific criteria were met or not met.
04If the child is placed, confirm the weekly 41-minute schedule, Odyssey of the Mind work and any Grade 7-8 advanced-math option.
05If disputing the decision, contact the superintendent and request the written Board process and the current Commissioner petition instructions.
