Bridgeton's current 2026-27 process combines universal Naglieri screening in Grades 2 and 5 with family and staff referrals in other grades. The district publishes a May 22 at 11:59 p.m. referral deadline, a May-August committee review, September decisions, and a tiered K-12 service continuum.

Published processAll Grades 2 and 5 students take the Naglieri General Ability Tests in verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative reasoning. Families or staff may nominate students in other grades. Screening may also use NJSLA, LinkIt benchmarks, Achieve3000 Lexile data, work samples, portfolios, behavior checklists, standardized tests, and normal-course performance. A committee reviews the multiple measures from May through August, and transfer records receive local review.
Published modelTier 1 gives all K-12 students classroom differentiation and enrichment. Eligible K-8 students may receive Tier 2 small-group instruction for 40 minutes once weekly, rotating through nonverbal, quantitative, and verbal reasoning. Grades 3-8 students identified in all three areas receive Tier 3 weekly 40-minute pull-out service and may enter academic competitions. Grade 8 includes a separate mathematics-acceleration screen; Grades 9-12 include Honors, AP, and Early College pathways.
