Bloomsbury publishes unusually clear K-8 gifted criteria across intellectual, academic, creativity, and leadership strengths. Nominations are ideally submitted before April 1 for the next school year, and the district says evaluation and family notification will be completed within 60 school days.

How students are considered
Published processThe intellectual route requires at least one listed indicator: Kaufman full-scale IQ of 125 or higher, or an aptitude score at or above the 90th percentile. The academic route requires at least two indicators from exceeds-expectations achievement, exceptional benchmark or grade performance, or teacher-endorsed academic evidence. Creativity uses staff recommendation with letters and examples; leadership requires two listed indicators. The district screens all students, including multilingual learners and students with IEPs or 504 plans.
What service can look like
Published modelIdentified students attend a Gifted and Talented class once each week for enrichment in academic learning, leadership, STEM, growth mindset, communication, research, creative thinking, and problem solving. Curricular modifications and county opportunities supplement the pull-out class, and participation is re-evaluated annually with needs reviewed each marking period.

01Contact the G&T Coordinator before April 1 when seeking placement for the following school year, while recognizing that teacher nominations can occur throughout the year.
02Identify the relevant strength route—intellectual, academic, creativity, or leadership—and provide evidence that matches that route's published criteria.
03For intellectual evidence, obtain the exact Kaufman full-scale IQ or aptitude percentile; for academic evidence, assemble at least two qualifying indicators.
04Record the nomination receipt date and track the district's 60-school-day evaluation and notification commitment.
05If placed, ask how the weekly pull-out, classroom modifications, and marking-period review will address the child's specific strengths.
06Because participation is reconsidered annually, keep authentic work and progress evidence that documents continuing need for advanced service.
