How students are considered
Published processAll Grade 2 students take fall and winter FastBridge and second-trimester CogAT before subject-specific screening. Grades 3-4 students at or above the 90th percentile on fall or winter FastBridge in reading or mathematics for a subject in which they are not served take the relevant CogAT portions. The blind panel reviews FastBridge, CogAT verbal or quantitative/nonverbal results, and the HOPE teacher rating scale. Grade 5-to-6 placement may also include IAAT, state and local assessments, and stakeholder input.
What service can look like
Published modelK-2 students receive enrichment and differentiation in on-grade-level classrooms. Identified Grades 3-5 ELA students learn daily in a mixed-ability cluster with intellectual peers. Grade 3 gifted mathematics uses daily cluster teaching, differentiation, and compacting; Grades 4-5 receive daily replacement math from a gifted teacher. Grade 5 ELA leads to Grade 6 Honors ELA, while mathematics leads to Grade 6 Honors Math or, after IAAT review, Pre-Algebra.

01For a Grade 2 student, track both fall and winter FastBridge and the second-trimester CogAT; no separate family nomination is needed for universal screening.
02For a Grade 3 or 4 student not already served in a subject, verify whether either fall or winter FastBridge result reaches the 90th percentile and triggers CogAT.
03Ask for the subject-specific evidence used by the blind panel: reading or math FastBridge, the relevant CogAT composite, and both academic and social HOPE ratings.
04Request the written end-of-May result and the exact daily cluster or replacement classroom assignment for the next year.
05Before Grade 6, ask whether the student is being reviewed for Honors ELA, Honors Math, or Pre-Algebra and request IAAT and supporting evidence where applicable.
06If contesting placement, use the correct elementary or junior-high appeal window; acceleration and early entrance use separate earlier spring applications.
