Maine 207's Gifted Lyceum is a four-year Maine East pathway for students scoring in the top five percent on CogAT. Grade 8 students submit fall MAP results before November 1, qualifying students test in December, and families receive decisions in early February.

How students are considered
Published processA Grade 8 student submits or completes fall MAP before November 1. Students scoring in the top 20 percent nationally in both mathematics and reading advance to December CogAT consideration. The Lyceum serves students who score in the top five percent on CogAT, with final placement decisions in early February.
What service can look like
Published modelStudents take enriched year-long courses beyond the accelerated curriculum in Grades 9-10, then two year-long Leadership for Life courses emphasizing service learning and creativity in Grades 11-12. Completing the four-year Lyceum requires at least nine Advanced Placement or dual-credit courses. Eligible District 207 students outside Maine East may attend with family-provided transportation.

01Before November 1 of Grade 8, confirm whether the student's fall MAP result is already on file or schedule the district's MAP test.
02Verify that both mathematics and reading meet the top-20-percent national screening requirement and ask for written confirmation of December CogAT eligibility.
03Confirm the December CogAT appointment and how the district determines the top-five-percent qualifying result.
04Request the early-February written decision and the course sequence, transportation responsibility, and Maine East transfer steps if the student lives in another District 207 attendance area.
05Map the four-year plan early so the student can complete enriched Grades 9-10 coursework, Leadership for Life in Grades 11-12, and at least nine AP or dual-credit courses.
