Who and which grades

Published coverageGrades 1-8, plus early-entry and accelerated-placement routes

02

How students are considered

Published processThe district reviews winter MAP results and refers high-achieving students for March or April CogAT. Advanced Reading or Accelerated Math requires qualifying MAP history; GATE also requires a qualifying cognitive score. The committee considers multiple results rather than one score and communicates spring placement. New students may use recent records or enter the next MAP window, then receive a decision after data review.

03

What service can look like

Published modelLEAP provides flexible Grade 1-2 reading and math groups. GATE Reading and Mathematics begin in Grade 2 and continue through Grade 8. Advanced Reading and Accelerated Mathematics run in Grades 3-8; GATE Math aims toward Honors Geometry by Grade 8, while Accelerated Math aims toward Algebra I. Students continue without annual retesting while successful.

Your starting checklist

Turn the published process into clear next steps.

Confirm current instructions with the district before submitting. Bloomfield does not predict placement or reproduce protected assessments.

01Ask the teacher which fall and winter MAP results meet the current Advanced, Accelerated, or GATE screening criteria in reading or mathematics.
02If referred for CogAT, confirm the March or April administration and request the full spring placement calendar.
03Request the written placement level and data considered; remember that GATE requires cognitive evidence while Advanced Reading and Accelerated Math use achievement evidence.
04If the decision does not reflect the complete record, obtain the appeal application immediately and follow the deadline in the decision letter.
05For early entry or subject or grade acceleration, submit the separate referral by April 30, 2027; for a transfer student, provide prior MAP, cognitive, and gifted-placement records at enrollment.
