CCSD93 uses Naglieri, classroom, iReady, and IAR evidence to identify about three percent of students for a multi-age Grade 4/5 gifted magnet. It also publishes Grade 6 advanced placement and family-initiated early-entry, subject-acceleration, and whole-grade-acceleration routes.

How students are considered
Published processAn initial Grade 4 magnet pool is formed from Naglieri General Ability Test results. The district then reviews classroom performance, iReady, and IAR evidence and invites students whose profiles show giftedness and high performance or achievement. In Grade 6, additional referrals use test data, teacher referral, and qualitative evidence. Subject and whole-grade acceleration may be initiated by a family, teacher, or student after reviewing whether classroom differentiation is sufficient.
What service can look like
Published modelInvited students from all six elementary schools may attend the multi-age Grade 4/5 magnet at Roy DeShane, where all four core subjects are taught in a homogeneous setting by a specially trained teacher. Magnet students move to advanced core instruction at Jay Stream in Grade 6. Additional students can enter middle-school advanced classes after fall review, and separate acceleration processes address unusually advanced needs outside the magnet.

01Before the Grade 4 review, ask which Naglieri administration, iReady periods, IAR results, classroom measures, and qualitative evidence will be included.
02Provide the teacher with concise examples of advanced reasoning, achievement, independence, and work that may not be visible in standardized results.
03Request the written magnet or advanced-placement decision and ask how a family can supply missing evidence or seek reconsideration.
04If differentiation is insufficient in one subject or across the grade, request the district's Quality Process for Student Referral for Acceleration and provide consent for testing.
05For early kindergarten, contact the residential principal by February 1 and complete the parent questionnaire before requesting the testing criteria and decision date.
