What the evidence confirms

STARS Gifted Education

STARS blends arts, technology, core academics, communication, creativity, and open-ended project work for Petersburg's gifted learners.

How services work: Students in grades 1–8 receive a weekly 60-minute pull-out plus classroom push-in support; high-school learners can use honors, dual enrollment, AP, and possible Governor's School placement.

How students are identified: Families, educators, administrators, peers, or students may refer. A committee reviews forms, work samples, grades, aptitude or universal-testing results, and teacher recommendations for placement the following school year.

State context

Virginia local plans for gifted education

Virginia requires each school division to identify gifted students and provide services through a locally approved comprehensive plan.

For families: The statewide requirement is consistent, but areas of identification, evidence, grade services, and delivery are local.
