What the evidence confirms
DEPTH and Gifted Opportunities Center
Lynchburg combines school-based gifted enrichment with a full-time elementary center and advanced secondary pathways.
How services work: DEPTH provides 45-minute weekly pull-out enrichment in every elementary school, while selected grades 3–5 students may attend the full-time Gifted Opportunities Center; grades 6–12 add advanced courses, AP, dual enrollment, and Governor’s School options.
How students are identified: All second-graders take CogAT. Students at or above the district’s published local-percentile threshold enter the candidate pool, while families, staff, and community members may also refer; a division committee reviews tests, questionnaires, and work samples, with appeals available.
