What the evidence confirms

Gifted Services

King George provides differentiated academic services in English and mathematics and connects older learners with several regional specialty programs.

How services work: School-based gifted services are supplemented by the Fredericksburg Summer Regional Governor's School and, in high school, Chesapeake Bay Governor's School, Commonwealth Governor's School, and the Academy of Technology and Innovation.

How students are identified: The division uses multiple criteria across cultural and socioeconomic groups. Second-graders receive MAP gifted screening, and referral forms are due by February 15 for assessment in the current cycle.

State context

Virginia local plans for gifted education

Virginia requires each school division to identify gifted students and provide services through a locally approved comprehensive plan.

For families: The statewide requirement is consistent, but areas of identification, evidence, grade services, and delivery are local.
