What the evidence confirms
GATE / Magnet Academies
Orangeburg County School District's GATE program combines specialized academic and artistic curricula with magnet, advanced-course, and early-college pathways.

How students are identified: The district starts screening each academic year and follows South Carolina eligibility: a 96th-percentile aptitude composite or qualifying evidence in two of the three aptitude, achievement, and performance dimensions.

State context
South Carolina gifted and talented requirements
South Carolina requires every district to identify and serve academically and artistically gifted students, with statewide second-grade census testing and common eligibility dimensions.
For families: Academic eligibility generally requires qualifying evidence in two of three dimensions—aptitude, achievement, and performance—or the state's automatic high-composite aptitude route. Local service models and schedules vary by district.
