Swain County uses screening, referral, placement committees, and personalized plans to connect gifted learners with differentiated and advanced opportunities.
How services work: Middle grades use advanced ELA, cluster and flexible grouping, project-based enrichment, acceleration, competitions, and Math I; high school adds honors, AP, dual enrollment, online learning, leadership, college preparation, and Credit by Demonstrated Mastery.
How students are identified: Universal and scheduled assessment data, teacher observations, checklists, performance, and referrals feed a continuing candidate pool. School placement committees review multiple measures, and students not yet qualifying remain eligible for annual reconsideration.
