Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Rutherford County uses broad K–8 screening and multiple evidence pathways to identify giftedness and match students with differentiated or individualized services.
How services work: DEPs provide subject-specific differentiation, grouping, enrichment, and acceleration; AI or IG students with additional needs may receive IDEPs, while secondary support includes advanced planning, mentorship, and coursework.
How students are identified: All third-graders receive CogAT, with K–2 observations and assessments and grades 3–8 annual screening pools. Student, family, and teacher nominations join aptitude, achievement, MAP, EOG, classroom, behavioral, and transfer evidence.
