How students are considered
Published processAll Grade 3 students take the OLSAT unless a parent or guardian contacts the building principal to decline screening. A score at or above the 97th percentile leads to PPT referral for TAG eligibility rather than automatic placement. The district expressly recognizes that giftedness can be masked by disability, socioeconomic factors, or underachievement.
What service can look like

01Ask the building principal for the 2026-27 Grade 3 OLSAT date and the timeline for family score notification.
02Before screening, document advanced work, unusual problem solving, specific academic strengths, creativity, or evidence that disability, disadvantage, or underachievement may mask ability.
03If the score is at or above the 97th percentile, request the PPT date and ask what evidence beyond the OLSAT will be considered for eligibility.
04Request the written eligibility result and an explanation of the evidence used by the PPT.
05If eligible, ask the school to document the enrichment trimester, activities, classroom differentiation, challenging curriculum, and progress measures available to the student.
