Gifted Education / EXTEND
York County combines kindergarten seminars, weekly EXTEND enrichment, cluster grouping, and an array of advanced secondary programs.
How services work: Identified students use mini-seminars in kindergarten, cluster groups and pull-out EXTEND in grades 1–5, middle-school EXTEND in grades 6–7, and honors, IB, AP, dual enrollment, arts, and Governor’s School options in grades 8–12.
How students are identified: A division committee identifies general intellectual aptitude in grades K–12 using the locally approved plan and places eligible K–7 students into grade-appropriate services.
