Intellectually Gifted Services
Tennessee recognizes intellectually gifted eligibility within special education when a student's needs exceed differentiated general education and require specially designed instruction or support services.
Research scope: This record confirms the statewide requirement or framework, not a locally named program. Applicability can differ for charter or special-purpose agencies; confirm the district's current services.
How services work: Eligible students may receive individualized services through an IEP; districts may also offer advanced academic programming. The mix of direct, consultative, and general-education supports is determined locally from student need.
How students are identified: School teams use systematic child find, individual screening, and a comprehensive multi-modal evaluation covering cognition, educational performance, and creativity. No single measure alone determines eligibility.
