Dorchester School District 2

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)

Dorchester School District Two's GATE continuum begins with gifted English language arts and mathematics and extends into accelerated, honors, Advanced Placement, and dual-enrollment pathways.

How services work: State-endorsed gifted teachers provide special classes in mathematics and language arts in grades 3–5 and advanced core classes in grades 6–8. High-school learners continue through honors, Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, and other advanced options.

How students are identified: All second-graders participate in statewide CogAT and Iowa screening, and the district continues screening through grade 8. Placement follows South Carolina's aptitude, achievement, and intellectual or academic performance dimensions.
