Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Watauga County combines universal screening, rolling referrals, talent development, and individualized academic pathways for students showing advanced potential or identified giftedness.
How services work: K–8 options include curriculum compacting, enrichment, project-based learning, clubs, competitions, and acceleration; high school adds advanced course planning, extracurricular opportunities, and postsecondary guidance.
How students are identified: All third-graders receive universal aptitude screening. School Excel Teams accept referrals throughout the year and use multiple measures to determine academic, intellectual, or combined identification and appropriate services.
