Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Perquimans County uses early talent development, universal screening, local and subgroup data, and annually tailored services to recognize diverse expressions of giftedness.
How services work: DEPs may include advanced literacy or mathematics, small groups, flexible clusters, project-based learning, independent and interdisciplinary study, creative problem-solving, competitions, acceleration, advanced courses, and leadership work.
How students are identified: All fourth-graders receive a nationally normed aptitude screen. Annual K–12 review also considers achievement, benchmarks, ACT or PSAT, classroom performance, top local subgroup results, work, observations, interests, and referrals.
