Academically or Intellectually Gifted Education (AIG)
New Hanover provides school-based gifted education, acceleration, and advanced-course options supported by a certified specialist at every school.
How services work: A full-time gifted specialist serves each elementary and middle school and a half-time specialist serves each traditional high school; subject and whole-grade acceleration, AP, IB, dual enrollment, Credit by Demonstrated Mastery, and Governor's School extend the continuum.
How students are identified: Families, educators, school staff, or students may nominate. The school collects data, evaluates need, and explains results, with specialists and principals coordinating differentiated services and the district's published review process.
