Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) / Advanced Studies
Charlotte-Mecklenburg offers a full K–12 continuum spanning gifted identification, differentiated instruction, talent-development magnets, Horizons, honors, AP, IB, and Cambridge pathways.
How services work: School-based enrichment and acceleration are complemented by Learning Immersion/Talent Development magnets and the self-contained Horizons program for highly gifted learners entering grades 3 and 6.
How students are identified: All second-graders in general education receive CogAT, i-Ready, and Gifted Rating Scales opportunities. Grades 3–12 may be referred, with AIG site-based committees reviewing quantitative and qualitative evidence under the 2025–2028 rubric.
