Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Edgecombe County uses schoolwide screening, open referral, portfolio alternatives, and annual individualized service planning for advanced learners.
How services work: AIG specialists, teachers, families, and counselors develop annual DEPs covering differentiated environments, curriculum, enrichment, social-emotional needs, and four-year secondary plans.
How students are identified: All third-graders receive CogAT screening, followed by annual districtwide achievement review. K–12 referrals may come from educators, families, students, or others, and multiple pathways consider aptitude, achievement, grades, rating scales, work, and portfolios.
