Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Currituck County provides talent development and differentiated gifted services through multiple identification pathways and grade-appropriate advanced opportunities.
How services work: AIG teachers support classroom differentiation and co-teaching, while secondary options include honors, AP, Credit by Demonstrated Mastery, dual enrollment, acceleration, and individual advanced-learning plans.
How students are identified: All second-graders receive CogAT screening. Other grades may be referred by families, teachers, or MTSS teams; identification combines ability, achievement, performance, work samples, and observed gifted characteristics.
