Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) / Advanced Learning
Buncombe County provides districtwide gifted programming designed to identify and nurture advanced potential, deepen instruction, and extend learning beyond grade-level expectations.
How services work: School-based AIG specialists support differentiated instruction, enrichment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and advanced-learning opportunities across the district's elementary and secondary schools.
How students are identified: The current 2025–2028 local plan governs screening, referral, identification, and placement. School teams maintain evidence records, monitor referred students, and communicate the process through AIG specialists and family meetings.
