Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Bertie County uses a multiple-criteria, locally responsive model to identify giftedness and nurture advanced potential, including students from traditionally underrepresented groups.
How services work: Individual DEPs may include compacting, acceleration, flexible grouping, enrichment, inquiry-based talent development, advanced coursework, dual enrollment, and social-emotional support.
How students are identified: All second-graders receive CogAT screening, with later referrals and reassessment available. School teams apply a Multiple Criteria Index using aptitude, achievement, grades, observations, performance tasks, local norms, portfolios, and other evidence.
