Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG)
Avery County provides an enriched gifted continuum emphasizing academic challenge, student interests, leadership, and collaboration with families and community partners.
How services work: Options include flexible grouping, subject or grade acceleration, compacting, projects, advanced literacy and mathematics, clubs, honors, AP, dual enrollment, early college, internships, and mentorships.
How students are identified: All second-graders receive CogAT screening. School MTSS teams combine aptitude, achievement, grades, work, observations, gifted-behavior ratings, and referrals; K–2 case review is available when exceptional differentiation is needed.
