Gifted and Talented

Dorchester combines primary talent development, differentiated classroom instruction, cluster grouping, enrichment, independent study, and acceleration.

How services work: PreK–2 Primary Talent Development builds observation portfolios; later services include cluster groups, school-based enrichment, curriculum extensions, independent study, and subject or whole-grade acceleration.

How students are identified: Universal CogAT screening occurs in winter of grade 3, with catch-up screening in grades 4–8. A committee reviews CogAT plus at least three measures drawn from achievement, grades, family nomination or interview, and talent-development evidence.
