Gifted Student Education

Sumter County provides challenging, engaging gifted opportunities fostering creativity, critical thinking, and academic excellence, matched to each student's strengths and learning profile.

How services work: The continuum uses multiple in-school instructional models and includes a full-time Accelerated Gifted Program where gifted students learn together with a certified teacher and work one grade ahead in English language arts and mathematics.

How students are identified: Eligibility requires qualifying individual intellectual assessment results, a majority of gifted characteristics reported by a current teacher, and evidence of need drawn from academic and social-emotional information.
