Gifted Education
Shelby County provides a K–12 continuum that identifies gifted learners, offers direct elementary and middle-school services, and connects high-school students with advanced academics and college or career preparation.
How services work: K–2 uses consultation, grades 3–5 use enrichment pull-out, middle grades use gifted content and Challenge courses, and high school uses indirect support through advanced core classes and college- and career-focused counseling.
How students are identified: All second graders receive a planned Child Find experience, and families or teachers may refer at any time. The district follows Alabama identification and eligibility requirements before placement.
