Telluride accepts referrals at every grade and universally screens Grades 2 and 6 with CogAT. Formal identification requires qualifying evidence in at least two evidence areas and three supporting data points.

How students are considered
Published processA parent, teacher, student, peer, or community member can refer through the teacher, principal, or gifted coordinator. The body of evidence spans aptitude, achievement, performance or portfolio, and behavior or characteristics. The district uses quantitative and qualitative evidence, ongoing review, and no single disqualifying factor.
What service can look like
Published modelThe annual Advanced Learning Plan documents academic and affective goals, matched programming, people responsible, progress monitoring, and family and student participation. Options may include acceleration, differentiation, enrichment, extended learning, coursework, and counseling or guidance.

01For Grades 2 and 6, ask when universal CogAT screening and result review will occur.
02At any grade, give a written referral to the teacher, principal, or gifted coordinator and complete the parent behavior inventory and permission forms.
03Provide evidence across aptitude, achievement, performance or portfolio, and behavior or characteristics, including nonacademic talent when relevant.
04Ask the team to identify the two qualifying evidence areas and three supporting data points in its written decision.
05If identified, review the annual ALP; for early access, submit the written request by April 1 and review the fee-waiver and 10-day appeal terms.
