San Ramon Valley uses CogAT for GATE identification and a separate, more selective Academic Talent Program. GATE itself is an identification, not a pullout program, while ATP is a magnet-class placement for highly gifted students.

Published processAll Grade 2 students may take CogAT in spring without registration. GATE identification requires a national age percentile rank of 98 or higher, or 97 with a 99 in one verbal, quantitative, or nonverbal area. Eligible newly enrolled or previously tested students in Grades 3-7 may use the fall retest route. ATP requires SRVUSD enrollment, an SRVUSD-administered CogAT, an initial local percentile rank of 97 or higher, and final selection based on demonstrated ability and need.
Published modelGATE-identified students in Grades 3-5 receive differentiation in their regular classes; middle-school students use individually appropriate courses; and high-school students may access honors, AP, accelerated math, and advanced arts under the same rules as other eligible students. ATP provides fast-paced, complex, individualized magnet classes from Grade 4 through middle school at designated sites.
