How students are considered
Published processStudents, parents, family members, teachers, and staff may refer using the online form or a bilingual paper form returned to a school office or gifted teacher. WESD identifies gifted learners beginning at the 95th percentile on a cognitive-ability test. Gifted Learning Center eligibility adds a second score above the 90th percentile and a third above the 80th percentile, followed by a separate application review.
What service can look like
Published modelGifted services are available at every WESD school, with teacher differentiation and student support supplemented by K-8 Project Potential. The Gifted Learning Center at Sahuaro is a full-day, self-contained K-6 setting with faster pacing, ability-level work, projects, and social-emotional support; FLEX at Cholla is the application-based Grades 7-8 option.

04For the Gifted Learning Center, collect all three scores, the parent or student letter, a brief work-sample video, and recommendations from both classroom and gifted teachers.
05Because 2026-27 signature options are close to capacity, submit the complete application now and confirm wait-list or space-available status with the coordinator.
