Published processA parent or teacher may recommend testing, and standardized pre-assessment information may also prompt referral. Queen Creek uses CogAT 7 or 8 once per calendar year and identifies at or above the 97th percentile in verbal, nonverbal, or quantitative reasoning. Although identification can occur as early as kindergarten, the district recommends initial testing in Grade 2. The school gifted specialist supplies the parent referral form and current details.
Published modelElementary ELP uses homogeneous small-group pullout for project-based STEM, creative problem solving, public speaking, and tasks aligned to verbal, quantitative, or nonverbal strengths. Katherine Mecham Barney provides an accelerated K-6 school-of-choice option. Secondary students can use open-access advanced ELA, sequenced honors mathematics, AP and dual enrollment, plus Newell Barney College Prep's accelerated mathematics, Spanish, and science pathway.
