01

Who and which grades

Published coveragePre-K-12 identification information and K-12 services, with elementary GEM, cluster, pullout and self-contained options plus advanced secondary pathways

02

How students are considered

Published processA parent, counselor, teacher, or student may refer. Before testing, the parent returns both the MUSD Permission to Evaluate Form and Gifted Characteristics Checklist. Marana primarily uses CogAT Form 7 and may use Raven as supplemental screening. A score at or above the 97th percentile in one approved reasoning area qualifies; results are sent within two weeks, and a student who does not qualify may retest after one year.

03

What service can look like

Published modelK-12 teachers provide acceleration and enrichment. K-1 students receive elementary GEM services; some sites offer electives or full-day pullout in Grades 2-8. Nine elementary schools and one K-8 school use gifted clusters, Coyote Trail provides daily Grades 2-6 pullout, and Twin Peaks offers K-6 self-contained or gifted classes. Grades 7-12 include AP, dual enrollment, advanced content, electives, counseling, leadership, clubs, and honors organizations.

Your starting checklist

Turn the published process into clear next steps.

Confirm current instructions with the district before submitting. Bloomfield does not predict placement or reproduce protected assessments.

01Ask the school or Gifted and Advanced Programming office for both the Permission to Evaluate Form and Gifted Characteristics Checklist, then return both before the site window closes.
02Confirm whether the student belongs in the August, December, spring Grade 2, April K-1, or spring Grades 3-6 testing route.
03Request the full CogAT battery report and the district results form; Marana says families should receive results within two weeks.
04After qualification, ask which named delivery model the campus actually provides rather than assuming all sites offer the same GEM setting.
05For secondary students, review advanced, honors, AP, and dual-enrollment prerequisites early enough to affect the next course schedule.
