How students are considered
Published processGilbert uses the state-approved CogAT Form 7. A 97th-percentile score qualifies, and the district's current explanatory article also states that two battery scores at or above the 95th percentile qualify. Enrolled second graders receive universal screening; for other grades, a parent uses the Gifted Education request form posted by the child's school. Out-of-district scores are reviewed centrally.
What service can look like
Published modelAll K-6 elementary schools use gifted cluster classrooms with daily differentiated support. Many schools provide daily gifted mathematics in Grades 4-6 one year above grade level and daily enriched ELA in Grade 6. Specialized options include the Grades 3-6 Gifted Academy at Towne Meadows and the Grades 7-8 Gifted Academy at Highland Junior High, followed by honors and other advanced secondary coursework.

01For an enrolled student outside Grade 2, open the child's school Gifted Education page during the published request window and retain the submission confirmation.
02For a second grader, confirm participation in universal screening and ask when the campus will send any invitation for additional testing.
03Request the full CogAT report and compare each verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal battery result with both the 97th-percentile rule and the district's two-at-95th criterion.
04Ask the campus to name the daily service the child will actually receive: cluster support, gifted mathematics, gifted ELA, a specialized academy, or a secondary course pathway.
05For an out-of-district result, submit the state-approved test record to Advanced Learning before placement decisions; for a non-enrolled student, complete the separate paid testing registration.
